Ingredients

1 pound ground chicken

1 cup fresh spinach, chopped

1 cup shredded white cheddar cheese

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 whole wheat burger buns

Fresh arugula or lettuce (for serving)

Slices of tomato (optional)

Avocado (optional)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, chopped spinach, shredded white cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, minced garlic, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.

Mix the ingredients using your hands or a spatula until they are well incorporated. Be careful not to overmix to keep the burgers tender.

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, about 1 inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the patties in the skillet.

Cook for about 5-6 minutes on one side until golden brown and slightly crisp. Flip the patties and cook an additional 5-6 minutes on the other side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

Optional: During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on top of each burger and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.

While the burgers are cooking, toast the whole wheat burger buns on a separate skillet or in a toaster.

To assemble, place a chicken burger on the bottom half of each bun, top with fresh arugula or lettuce, tomato slices, and avocado if desired.

Finally, add the top bun and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or side salad.
