Ingredients

For the Bread:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 cup buttermilk

2 tsp vanilla extract

2 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Granny Smith)

For the Crumb Topping:

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

Prepare the Crumb Topping: In a small bowl, mix together the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Add the cold butter cubes and use a fork or your fingers to combine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in nuts if using. Set aside.

Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold it in with a spatula until just combined. Avoid over-mixing. Then, fold in the diced apples.

Pour into Pan: Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the crumb topping generously over the batter.

Bake: Bake for 60 to 70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (a few moist crumbs are okay).

Cool: Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Slice the warm apple cinnamon bread and enjoy it fresh, or store it in an airtight container to savor later!
