Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

½ cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

¼ tsp salt

Pink food coloring (optional)

1 cup cream cheese frosting (store-bought or homemade)

½ cup red sprinkles

Edible heart-shaped decorations (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with heart-shaped liners.

Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour (mix until just combined).

Color the Batter: If using, add a few drops of pink food coloring to achieve your desired shade and mix gently.

Fill the Cupcake Liners: Spoon the batter into the prepared heart-shaped cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.

Bake: Place the cupcake pan in the oven and bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool: Allow the cupcakes to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frost the Cupcakes: Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, frost them generously with cream cheese frosting.

Decorate: Sprinkle red sprinkles on top of the frosting and add edible heart-shaped decorations for a festive touch.

Serve and Enjoy: Arrange your delightful heart cupcakes on a platter and enjoy them with your loved ones on Valentine’s Day!
