Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut into cubes

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

½ cup heavy cream

½ cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup crushed pineapple (drained if canned)

½ cup shredded coconut (optional)

½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Maple syrup, for serving

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Prepare the Bread: In a large mixing bowl, layer the cubed Sweet Hawaiian rolls evenly in the greased baking dish.

Mix Eggs and Dairy: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Add Pineapple: Gently fold in the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut (if using), mixing just until combined.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the cubed rolls, making sure to soak all pieces thoroughly. Press down gently with a spatula to ensure the bread absorbs the custard.

Add Nuts: Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts (if using) over the top for added crunch and flavor.

Chill (Optional): If you have time, cover the dish with foil and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight. This step allows the flavors to meld and the bread to soak up the custard.

Bake: Remove the baking dish from the refrigerator (if previously chilled) and uncover. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Enjoy: Serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup and additional crushed pineapple or coconut on top, if desired.
