Ingredients

1 lb ground lamb or beef

1 medium onion, diced

2 carrots, diced

1 cup frozen peas

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon fresh thyme

1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups mashed potatoes (prepared with butter and cream)

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon olive oil

Optional: shredded cheddar cheese for topping

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and diced carrots; cook for another 5 minutes until the carrots begin to soften.

Stir in the ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. This should take about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.

Pour in the beef broth and mix in the frozen peas. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.

Transfer the meat mixture into an oven-safe casserole dish. Spread it evenly.

Top the meat mixture with the prepared mashed potatoes, smoothing them out with a spatula. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top for added flavor.

Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the edges are bubbling.

Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then serve hot.
