Ingredients

8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, at room temperature

½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened

4 cups (500 g) powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp milk (optional, for thinning the frosting)

A pinch of salt

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and unsalted butter. Using an electric mixer, beat them together on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.

Gradually sift in the powdered sugar while mixing on low speed. This will help prevent a sugar cloud and ensure a smooth blend. Once all sugar is added, increase the speed to medium and continue to mix until fully incorporated and fluffy.

Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to the mixture. Beat for an additional minute until all ingredients are well combined.

If the frosting is too thick, add the milk one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

Taste the frosting and adjust sweetness or flavor as needed. If you want a more pronounced cream cheese flavor, feel free to add a little more cream cheese (keep the proportions in mind!).

Once the frosting is ready, use it immediately to frost your red velvet cake, or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
