Ingredients

1 package (8 oz) of crescent roll dough

6 fully cooked mini sausages (or hot dogs)

½ cup baking soda

1 cup warm water

1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Coarse sea salt (for topping)

1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Optional: Mustard or cheese sauce for dipping

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles along the perforated lines.

Cut the Dough: For each sausage, cut each triangle into smaller triangles (about 6 per roll for mini sausages) to fit snugly around the sausages.

Wrap the Sausages: Take a sausage and wrap one of the smaller triangles of dough around it, starting from the thick end and wrapping to the pointed tip. Ensure the dough overlaps slightly to seal well. Repeat for all sausages.

Boil the Baking Soda Solution: In a medium pot, bring 1 cup of warm water to a gentle boil. Stir in the baking soda carefully until fully dissolved.

Dip the Wrapped Sausages: Using a slotted spoon, carefully dip each wrapped sausage into the baking soda solution for about 30 seconds. This step will give them that pretzel flavor and beautiful golden color.

Prepare for Baking: Place the dipped sausages on the lined baking sheet, leaving some space between each one. Brush the top of each with the beaten egg to achieve a glossy finish.

Add Toppings: Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top for that classic pretzel touch.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.

Finishing Touch: Remove from the oven and immediately brush the warm pretzel pigs with melted butter for an extra rich flavor.

Serve: Allow to cool slightly, then serve warm with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping.
