Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cut into thick slices

4 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp almond extract

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)

Fresh berries (for garnish, optional)

Mint leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Arrange the thick slices of brioche or challah in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, overlapping slightly.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt until thoroughly combined.

Soak the Bread: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring they are fully saturated. If necessary, gently press the bread down into the custard for even soaking.

Chill Overnight: Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate overnight to allow the bread to absorb the custard.

Preheat the Oven: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the French Toast: Remove the dish from the refrigerator and uncover it. Since the top might be soggy, sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the bread slices. This will create the brûlée crust.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden and caramelized.

Serve Warm: Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh berries and mint leaves if desired.

Enjoy: Serve warm, and enjoy the rich, creamy flavor of crème brûlée in every bite!
