1. Trimming Crusts: Start by laying out your slices of bread on a clean surface. Use a sharp knife to carefully trim off the crusts. This step is crucial for achieving a seamless roll-up. Removing the crusts also allows the bread to be more pliable, making it easier to roll without tearing.

Ingredients

8 slices of white bread

4 slices of deli ham (or your choice of cooked ham)

4 slices of cheese (e.g., Swiss, cheddar, or mozzarella)

3 large eggs

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon butter (for frying)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Powdered sugar (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Trim the crusts off each slice of bread. Using a rolling pin, gently roll each slice flat to make it easier to roll.

Assemble the Roll-Ups: Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each flattened slice of bread. Tightly roll up each slice from one end to the other.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.

Coat the Roll-Ups: Dip each roll-up into the egg mixture, making sure all sides are coated and allowing any excess to drip off.

Cook the Roll-Ups: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted and sizzling, carefully place the roll-ups seam side down in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy. You may need to do this in batches depending on your skillet size.

Serve: Once cooked, remove the roll-ups from the skillet and let them cool slightly. Drizzle with maple syrup and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm and enjoy your savory-sweet treat!
