3 medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 cup of whole wheat flour

1 cup of breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)

1 tsp cinnamon

½ tsp nutmeg (optional)

½ cup of unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of choice)

2 tbsp maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)

Pinch of salt

Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Prepare the Apples: Wash and core the apples. Cut them into fry-sized wedges or sticks, about ¼ inch thick. You can leave the skin on for added texture and nutrients!

    Set Up Breading Station: In one bowl, mix the whole wheat flour with a pinch of salt. In a second bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In a third bowl, whisk together the almond milk and maple syrup until well blended.

      Coat the Apple Fries: Start by dipping each apple fry into the flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated. Shake off the excess flour, then dip it into the almond milk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll the fry in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing down slightly to ensure it sticks well.

        Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes while you finish coating the apple fries.

          Arrange in Air Fryer: Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Lay out the apple fries in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap. You may need to do this in batches.

            Air Fry the Apple Fries: Cook the apple fries in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking. Cook until golden brown and crispy.

              Serve and Enjoy: Once done, remove the apple fries from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with a side of yogurt, caramel sauce, or a sprinkle of powdered sugar for dipping!
