Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup milk, warmed to 110°F (43°C)

1/4 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp ground cinnamon

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) - optional

1/4 cup powdered sugar for icing

2 tbsp milk for icing

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, cooled brewed coffee, and granulated sugar. Stir in the instant yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Mix the Dough: Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and ground cinnamon until combined. If using, chop the nuts and set them aside.

Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 15x24). Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top. If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts as well.

Shape the Rolls: Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal it. Cut the log into 12 equal slices (about 1.5 inches each).

Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking pan, leaving some space between each roll. Cover with a towel and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the Rolls: Once risen, bake the rolls in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Make the Icing: While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk or powdered sugar as needed.

Cool and Ice: Once the rolls are done baking, let them cool for about 10 minutes before drizzling the icing over the top.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm with a cup of coffee for the perfect pair.
