The beloved chocolate chip cookie has a rich history that dates back to the 1930s when Ruth Wakefield, the owner of the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts, invented the treat. The story goes that she was attempting to create a chocolate cookie but instead found that by adding chopped chocolate bars to her dough, she created a cookie that was chewy, rich, and utterly delightful. This innovative treat quickly grew in popularity, resulting in the classic chocolate chip cookie we know and love today.

Ingredients

1 cup cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Gradually add granulated sugar and brown sugar, continuing to beat until fully incorporated.

Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the cream cheese mixture, mixing until just combined.

Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Using a cookie scoop, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.

Gently press a few mini chocolate chips on top of each cookie for added decoration.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown, and the centers look slightly underbaked.

Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
