Ingredients

4 large round artisan bread loaves

1 pound spaghetti

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage

1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes

2 teaspoons dried basil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cut the top off each bread loaf and hollow out the insides, leaving about an inch of bread on the sides for support. Keep the insides for later use (you can make croutons or breadcrumbs).

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.

Add ground beef or Italian sausage to the pan, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Combine the drained spaghetti with the sauce, mixing well to coat all the pasta.

Spoon the spaghetti mixture generously into each hollowed-out bread bowl, packing it down slightly.

Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top of the spaghetti in each bread bowl.

Place the filled bread bowls on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
