Asian-Style Ground Beef Lettuce Wraps

Ingredients
  

1 lb ground beef (preferably lean)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

1 red bell pepper, finely chopped

1/2 cup water chestnuts, diced

1/4 cup green onions, chopped

1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon Sriracha (optional, for heat)

1 head of butter lettuce or iceberg lettuce, leaves separated

Sesame seeds, for garnish

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions
 

Prepare the Garnishes: Start by washing and separating the lettuce leaves. Set them aside to dry. Chop the green onions and dice the water chestnuts and red bell pepper.

    Cook the Beef: In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef, cooking until it's browned and fully cooked, stirring occasionally to break up the meat (about 5-7 minutes).

      Sauté the Aromatics: Once the beef is cooked, add minced garlic and ginger into the skillet. Sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

        Add Vegetables: Stir in the chopped red bell pepper, diced water chestnuts, and half of the green onions. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

          Mix the Sauces: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and Sriracha (if using). Pour this sauce over the beef and vegetable mixture. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2 minutes until everything is heated through.

            Serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Spoon the flavorful mixture into the lettuce leaves, garnishing with sesame seeds and the remaining green onions. Add fresh cilantro on top for extra flavor.
