Ingredients

2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) - peeled and diced

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 package of pre-made phyllo pastry sheets (or puff pastry)

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon melted butter (optional, for brushing)

Caramel sauce (for drizzling)

Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Apples: In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, brown sugar, and flour. Toss well to coat the apples evenly and set aside to marinate for about 10 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Layer Phyllo Pastry: If using phyllo pastry, take 3 sheets and layer them on top of each other, brushing melted butter between each layer for added richness. If using puff pastry, roll out the pastry and cut it into small squares, roughly 3x3 inches.

Fill the Bites: Place a spoonful of the apple mixture in the center of each pastry square. Fold the corners towards the center to create a pocket and pinch to seal. You can also make small slits on top for a decorative touch.

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the top of each pastry pocket for a golden finish. If desired, brush with melted butter as well.

Bake: Arrange the filled pastry bites on the prepared baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly. Drizzle with caramel sauce and serve warm with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 40 minutes | Servings: 12 bites
