Ingredients

For the dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1/2 cup whole milk, warmed (110°F)

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1/2 tsp salt

For the filling:

2 medium apples, peeled and diced (preferably Granny Smith)

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the icing:

1 cup powdered sugar

2-3 tbsp milk

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly. Add melted butter, egg, and salt, and mix well. Gradually add the flour, stirring until the dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling: While the dough is rising, mix the diced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Set aside.

Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

Add the Filling: Spread the softened butter evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a border around the edges. Then, sprinkle the apple mixture over the buttered dough, pressing gently to adhere.

Shape the Rolls: Starting from the long edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch the seam to seal, and cut the log into 12 equal rolls.

Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, leaving some space between them. Cover with the kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat and Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Prepare the Icing: While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the milk for desired consistency.

Glaze the Rolls: Once the rolls are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle the icing over the top. Serve warm and enjoy the sweet aroma of apple and cinnamon!
