Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon dried parsley

2 cups beef broth

1 cup cream of mushroom soup

4 cups sliced fresh mushrooms (optional)

3 cups mashed potatoes (prepared)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dried parsley. Mix until well combined.

Form the mixture into burger-sized patties (about 4-6 patties) and set aside.

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the patties on both sides for about 3-4 minutes, then remove them from the skillet.

In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms (if using) and sauté until golden brown for about 5 minutes.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together beef broth and cream of mushroom soup until smooth.

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, place the browned patties. Pour the mushroom soup mixture over them, and then sprinkle the sautéed mushrooms on top.

Dollop the prepared mashed potatoes on top of the dish, spreading evenly over the patties.

Finally, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of the mashed potatoes.

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Allow to cool slightly before serving and enjoy this comforting dish!
